Natural Gas CCHP System

CCHP
Combined Cooling Heating and Power, CCHP, is established on the basis of stepped utilization of energy, taking natural gas as primary energy to produce heating, electricity, cooling together on the site of energy consumer.
The high temperature gas deriving from gas turbine, gas engine or micro-gas turbine will be firstly used for power generation, then for heating in winter, for cooling in summer through the absorption refrigerator, meanwhile, it can also supply hot water, which makes full use of exhaust heat and increase the energy utilization rate up to 80% of the primary energy.

 


Application
According to the supply scope, CCHP can be divided into the following types:
Regional Type
This type of system refers to energy supply center in all kinds of industrial, commercial or technological parks. The gensets and supporting equipment are usually of high capacity, with setting up an independent energy supply center. The energy distribution equipment out of the energy center should be taken into consideration.
Building Type
This type of system refers to cooling heating and power supply center in a building, such as office buildinng, data center, hospital and mixed-use buildings. The genset is usually of low capacity. It is always inside the building and there is no need to build engergy distribution equipment outside the building.

Configuration
There are several modes for CCHP with the core equipment of gas power generation, two basic configurations are:
Gas power generation (including internal combustion engine and gas turbine) + absorption chiller (Waste heat & direct-fired type). The gas power generation produces electric power,at the same time the heat from the Jacket water and/or the exhaust gas come to the absorption chiller to supply the needed heating and cooling. The gas can be directly combusted in the chiller to supply more heating or cooling according to the load variation;
Gas power generation (including internal combustion engine and gas turbine) + waste heat boiler + steam type absorption chiller + electrical refrigerator + gas boiler.The gas power generation produces electric power,at the same time the heat from the Jacket water and/or the exhaust gas come to the waste heat boiler to produce steam, the steam then come into the steam type absorption chiller to supply the heating. According to the loading variation, insufficient cooling capacity will be supplemented by electric driven compression refrigerator while insufficient heating will be supplemented by heating pump and/or gas boiler.

Advantage
Close to user site, reduce loss of transportation of energy;
Possibility of use of heat—relatively cheap “waste energy”;
Electricity produced can be transported to public power grid or meet the power requirement of local clients;
Wide range output of power and heat energy, total efficiency may reach 70-80% (power and heat energy together, including gas and steam combined cycle);
Relieve power shortage; balance the different demand between the seasons;
Low operation and maintenance cost during the whole life cycle;
Small footprint, low investment.
